Tijuana Masters

We have the winners of 2022

Eibar, CC La Historia, CD Naval and San Agustín winners of the Donosti Masters Cup

The Donosti Masters Cup concluded with an international list of winners that endorse the growth of the veterans' tournament. Great return after two years in which everyone noticed its absence.

In the morning, the women's +30 category crowned Eibar on penalties at the Cesar Benito field, who beat Olympia Las Rozas in the final after a goalless draw in regular time. The Eibar players withstood the Madrid offense well and were very solid from the penalty spot to win by a clear 3-1 and thus win their third consecutive Donosti Masters Cup tournament. In the fight for the Continental Cup, the Oiartzun KE team clearly beat Tres Cantos from Madrid.

In the afternoon, and after an intense day of elimination rounds in the Zubieta fields. The +35 category opened the fight for the gold medals. In the Champions League, the Madrid players of CC La Historia, wearing the colours of Atlético de Madrid, beat Ordizia KE in a very close and exciting final that ended up being decided by penalties after a goalless draw in the 25 minutes of game- time. At the same time, the Mexican Tijuana Masters lifted the Continental Cup after beating the French team Le Bon Jouet by 2 goals to 1. The Mexicans came back from a shaky start to the tournament to win all their matches on Saturday.

The finals of the 45+ age group followed, where the Cantabrian team CD Naval (Reinosa) beat Hondarribia KE in the Champions League after a long penalty shoot-out with no mistakes by both teams, which was decided by the minimum score. The match was entertaining and full of alternatives on the scoreboard to finish tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation time. Javo, from CD Naval, was also named MVP of the category. The Continental Cup was won by the local team Nekaezinak with a 2-0 win over Young Talents from Catalonia.

To finish the great day of football, the most veteran category crowned the Madrid team of San Agustin against the revelation team of the tournament, the Central Americans of Panama Legends (Panama) in the final of the Champions League. The pragmatic game of the team from Madrid prevailed over the physical and vertical game of the Latinos. The match started with clear chances for both teams, but between the posts and the great performance of the goalkeepers, the score remained tied. A single goal after 10 minutes was enough for the Madrilenians to decide the final. 1-0 and let's celebrate! In the Continental Cup, Aviron Bayonnais took the lead against Trouville Fútbol Universitario from Uruguay but managed to equalise on penalties and keep the score level until the final whistle to decide the winner on penalties. In the penalty shoot-out, Aviron was the more solid side to lift the cup.

A day in which football and sportsmanship reigned and, in these categories, it is to be celebrated that there were no major injuries to be regretted.
