Real Union, usual team in the Donosti Masters Cup, played against the Real Madrid in a friendly match yesterday, on the 100thanniversary of the Spanish Cup of 1918, year when the Basque team won the championship.

The match organized by the Veterans' Association of Real Union Club, was on November 18 at 12:00 p.m. in Stadium Gal (Irun).

It was a match with very special moments, together with different tributes to the families of the champions of the 18’s at the beginning of the match.

In the soccer thing, the Real Madrid, with players as Alfonso, Congo, Pavón, Núñez, Moral, Balboa or De la Red among others, imposed themselves 0-5 taking the revenge of what had happened one century ago in the final of the Spanish Cup.

From the side of Real Union, players like Berruet, Goikoetxea, Pike, Laguardia, Garmendia, Sagues, Palenzuela, and a long etc, put everything of their part to face the Real Madrid, although they could not do anything with the onslaughts of Congo, de la Red and company.

Special illusion made to be able to return to see, 10 years later, Rubén De la Red dressed on short, in the field where he suffered an ictus that forced him to leave the professional football. For this reason, their two goals were the most applauded of the match.

Nice spectacle, definitively, both for the players and for the 1,400 assistants who smiled again at Gal remembering old times.
