The 5thedition of International Veterans Football tournament " Donosti Masters Cup 2018” has been a success.
In this edition there were more than one hundred matches played in five different fields at the same time. The finals were very close, and finally Garnitez from Madrid won in the +35 category and Ath. San Just from Barcelona in the +45 category.
The ball began to roll on Friday in Berio with twelve matches of the first phase. After the first contact with the field, the official reception took place in the Miramar Palace, where the teams were welcome with a cocktail and a traditional Basque dance under the incomparable frame of the city.
On Saturday morning the competition was taken again in Hernani, Don Bosco, Fandería, Puio and Berio where the rest of matches of the first phase were disputed. Intense encounters, under the rain sometimes, where a lot of effort was needed on the part of the players. After finishing the first phase they met to recharge forces in the university dining room, where they could chat on the plays and results of the first meetings.
In spite of the weariness the matches of the evening turned out to be vibrant and the teams played their best and go round after round to get to the final. In addition, they counted with the extra help of masseurs of the institute IEMTC to whom we are very grateful for their work and dedication.
In the Champions League disputed in Berio, the final of the category +35 faced Full Equip (Alcoy) and Granitez (Madrid) giving the victory to the above mentioned for 0-1 in a very disputed match. The final of the category +45 between Hondarribia (Guipuzcoa) and Ath Sant Just (Barcelona) was also intense, where the Catalans mended an initial 0-1, to finally win the trophy of the tournament with a 2-1 in the final scoreboard.
Regarding the Phase B final, played in Puio, Mollet of the Valles (Catalonia) raised the trophy of the category +45 in a match solved in a very entertaining shift of penalties, against Donosti K.E. In the category +35, Union Sportiva Sants managed to take the third cup for Catalonia, in a match against Battersea Park.
